  • We are so excited to share @106kmel’s interview with our Executive Director, Shakirah Simley; Marvellus Lucas, Community Wellness Manager; and Jazzy Murray-Thomas, Community Wellness Liaison!

“We have a food justice program where we buy food from Black farmers, and we bring it into San Francisco and give it to Black chefs who turn it into meals for Black people. That’s our Service to Soul program - Black-led and Black-fed.” - Executive Director, Shakirah Smiley

“Fillmore, Feel Well isn't just about the pandemic. If the pandemic wasn’t here, we would still be doing the work to bring proper messaging, proper opportunities, bringing that relationship back” - Marvellus Lucas, Community Wellness Manager

“[We are] San Francisco natives, born and raised, so we’re very good with our outreach. We’re in the streets. People connect with us, so I feel that’s another reason why we have so much good pool in the community, and that’s why people are responding to Booker T. the way they are responding. - Community Wellness Liaison, Jazzy Murray-Thomas
  • Our Senior programs are geared toward keeping seniors living independently as long as they can, and focusing on providing activities to enhance the physical and mental well-being of older adults.

  • The AIM Rollin’ Root Mobile Farmers Market is coming to our neighborhood!

In partnership with the New Liberation Community Church, The Rollin’ Root is a food truck stocked with seasonal fruits, vegetables, nuts, rice and dairy products with 100% of the products sourced directly from local farmers who participate at the Agricultural Institute of Marin's local farmer's markets.

All products are offered for sale at affordable price points and remain competitive with local grocery store pricing. We are also able to offer a discount to CalFresh participants who use their EBT card at The Rollin’ Root. Customers are eligible to receive 50% off the purchase of fruits and vegetables through Market Match (up to $10 in discounts per day

  • In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, youth at Booker T. participated in a Kamayan Feast where they prepared food and ate with their hands on banana leaves, a traditional Filipino method of eating that encourages building lasting relationships with friends and family. The meal was served to peers and staff at the Center, and was followed by a karaoke session, where attendees sang their hearts out!

  • Last month we partnered with @honeyartist and @citizenfilm to host a Community Painting Event!

We LOVED getting creative (and a little messy) with our friends!

  • Happy belated 102 birthday to Booker T. Washington, our great historical black icon who promoted the ideals of self-determination, self-improvement, and helping one’s community. Our Center’s founders embodied these ideals, and we carry on his legacy through every interaction with our community.
