04 Aug A Sun-Sational Summer 2022 Recap
We’ve had a jam-packed summer at the Center, filled with a variety of events, field trips, summer camp fun – and so much more.
Youth at Booker T. have had a summer full of learning in fun and meaningful ways! For Juneteenth, we centered our lesson plans around Freedom Day and “What Freedom Means to Me”. They also visited NASA to learn about the satellite that will launch their art into outer space (read more about our partnership with DrawTogeher and NASA on our blog here)!
Teachers at Booker T. guided youth through a series of STEM Challenge activities including a lego building and cup stacking challenge! Inspired by artist Jen Stark, students created individual abstract paintings that were later taped together to create a large collaged mural.
We also adventured outside to the brand new Presidio Park for a scavenger hunt hike, and Great America for some roller coaster thrills!
Our Teen/Tay Program had their first work experiences as Junior Camp Counselors, learning responsibility and leadership skills. They also had an opportunity to work with Dev Mission, where they grew their abilities in music, technical skills, and sound engineering!
Our senior community members went on a series of field trips including the Oakland Museum of California and San Francisco Public Library!
Our Summer has been full of fun activities, learning opportunities, and important memories for everyone in the community, and as our summer camp comes to a close August 5th, the youth of our community will not forget the lasting friendships, learning, and memories that they made during their summer together!
