This season has been jam-packed with exciting programs and activities that brought joy, and learning, while fostering strong connections within our Booker T. community. From spirited celebrations that honored the cultural richness of Día de los Muertos, to festive Halloween gatherings that brought laughter and camaraderie, our Fall events were a testament to the joyous spirit that defines Booker T.

Celebrating Life and Legacy: Día de los Muertos
We celebrated Día de Los Muertos by crafting nicho frames to commemorate our loved ones who have passed, adorning our ofrenda with marigolds from Mariquita Farm. Our Youth Programs Coordinator, Ms. Casy, made chocolate de abuelita and brought conchas, while Chef Fernay of Minnie Bell’s Soul Movement prepared pupusas for lunch. Thank you for sharing this tradition with us, Ms. Casy!
A Spooktacular Halloween Recap
Our youth had an absolute blast at our annual BOO-ker T. Monster Mash! They showed off their Halloween costumes, boo-gied to jams spun by everyone’s favorite DJ Waffle Fry, and trick-or-treated throughout the center! The Chibi Chan Too preschoolers came through on their annual Halloween parade, and our staff dressed up as a fruit salad!
At Booker THalloween is a week-long celebration, and we ventured down the hill to Collective Impact‘s Mo’Magic for their annual Halloween bash. The day was filled with exciting activities, including a visit to the Pumpkin Patch at the African African American Arts & Cultural Complex, a spine-tingling tour of Mo’Magic’s annual Haunted House at Ella Hill Hutch Community Center, trick-or-treating fun, and a costume contest!
Our afterschool youth also headed to the pumpkin patch! They hand-picked their favorite pumpkins, got imaginative on the hayride, and decorated their pumpkins back at the Center.
Fresh Picks of the Season: A Focus on Fall Fruits and Vegetables
This season at our Farm Fresh Market, we have basil and pineapple guava from Farmer Yolanda at Pollinate Farm in Oakland, as well as Asian pears from Farmer Pandora at EARTHseed Farm in Sebastopol.
We celebrated fall with our annual Harvest Fest, a joyous Friendsgiving Soul Dinner, complete with giveaways, fall crafts, raffles, and games. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners at Collective Impact’s Mo’Magic, the African American Art & Culture Complex (AAACC), the Dream Keeper Initiative, and our exceptional event sponsor, Verizon.
